Know everything about international student insurance cancellation and refund

As an international student, you can find wide assorted plans for your academic purposes. Visitor Guard® has several plans for J1 and F1 visa holders, and students who are in OPT programs, technical programs, and ESL programs. Hence, it becomes quite easy for international students to find a policy for their abroad academic programs.

But what about insurance cancellation and refund?

As a matter of fact, the insurance policy’s cancellation and refund vary with each  plan. Whether you will be eligible for a full refund, or a partial refund can be determined by the international student insurance policy you purchase and the cancelation terms of the policy..

Patriot America

Before the effective date of the policy– Full cancellation and refund will only be considered if the written request is received before the effective date of the coverage.

After the effective date of the policy- If the written request is received after the Effective Date of coverage, the following conditions apply if the Insured Person wishes to cancel the insurance and a written partial refund request has been made:

a) If any claims have been filed with the Company, the Premium is fully earned and is non-refundable.

b) If no claims have been filed with the Company, then

(i) a cancellation fee of US $50 will be charged; and

(ii) only full month premiums will be considered as refundable

Atlas America

The plan’s cancellation and refund policy is similar to Student Secure. Call the insurance company to know if there are any new changes.

Student Secure

To be eligible for a full refund, the cancellation request must be received before the effective date. Cancellation requests received after the effective date will be subject to the following conditions:

• A $25 cancellation fee will apply

• Only premium for unused whole months of the plan will be refunded

• Only members who have no claims are eligible for a premium refund

• When payment is made in full at the time of purchase, no refunds are granted after 60 days

Study USA

The plan’s cancellation and refund policy is similar to the Student Secure plan.

Student Health Advantage

The policyholders may get a full refund with a written notice before the start date. If after the effective date, unused full month premiums can be refunded with a $50 fee if no claims have been submitted.

Diplomat long-term

Less a $25 processing fee, will be considered only when a written request is received  before the Effective Date of Individual coverage. After the Effective Date of Individual coverage, a premium is considered fully earned and non-refundable. Partial refunds are not available.

WorldMed

Yes, cancellation and refund are possible. The policyholder needs to submit a written notice before the start date with a $20 fee applied. No refunds are processed after the effective date.
