Emergency Medical Evacuation & Repatriation Insurance

Anyone who has been critically ill in a foreign country knows how terrible it can be. With such hardships comes the additional headache of traveling back home. And many of those who lose a loved one overseas suffer both emotional and financial hardship—if you don’t have repatriation and medical evacuation insurance, the costs can be extremely high.

An experienced and effective team is needed to complete the transfer of a sick, injured or deceased individual to the required destination.

Evacuation insurance or repatriation insurance can help you with both. Medical Evacuation arranges to medically transport a patient to an appropriate medical facility. Repatriation coverage ensures that a patient can return home to receive care.

Repatriation of Remains arranges for the return of the deceased remains to the place of residence. Adding this coverage to your visitor insurance plan can make sure you avoid financial burdens if an emergency were to arise.

Evacuation and Repatriation Insurance FAQ

Emergency medical evacuation is a type of insurance coverage providing air transportation to the closest suitable medical facility when a person suffers a severe and unexpected illness or injury. In cases where you need to be transported to the most appropriate treatment center and not necessarily the nearest medical facility, it can cost thousands of dollars and can be covered by medical evacuation insurance.

Repatriation of Remains is also known as Return of mortal Remains covers the cost of transporting your body back to your home country should you die when you travel overseas.

In many cases, like for J visa holders or international students it is necessary to have evacuation insurance included as part of the health insurance requirement. For other visas, it might not be a necessity, but it is probably highly recommended to have evacuation and repatriation insurance.  It is a good idea to check if the insurance covers evacuation. Typically, visitors insurance policies cover medical treatment at a suitable facility, but might not transport you to the appropriate treatment center.
