The International Major Medical plan covers eligible expenses incurred by the insured due to an illness or injury. After the deductible has been met, the plan pays 100% of the eligible expenses. The insured has the flexibility to see any doctor or any hospital within the USA but can use the First Health Network for negotiated rates. The plan can be bought for as little as a day to a maximum of 6 months.

The International Major Medical Plan insurance is a temporary major medical insurance plan available for up to 6 months of coverage for visitors to the US traveling either for business or vacation. Eligible expenses caused by a covered illness or injury resulting in inpatient hospital services or outpatient doctor services are covered by the policy. The plan also includes coverage for recreational and non-professional sports activity coverage. You have the option to add hazardous activity and War and terrorism coverage riders.

What is the Price or Cost of International Major Medical Plan?

The pricing is dependent on the following factors:

Plan Limit: There are various options to choose from.  The higher the policy maximum, the higher will be the premium. Plan offers five plan limits of $50,000, $100,000, $250,000, $500,000 or $1,000,000 for ages up 69 years. The choice of policy maximum changes per age.

Age: The plan is available till the age of 84 years.

Coverage Days: The plan can be bought up to a maximum of 6 months.

Optional Coverage Benefits Riders: Optional coverage can be purchased for:

Cardiac and Cancer Benefit Increase: If you select this option Underwriters will remove the $25,000 limitation on cardiac and cancer-related conditions and Underwriters will consider them to be the same as any other expense. This option is available only to individuals under the age of 60 and it does not waive the pre-existing condition exclusion.

Sports or Activity Coverage: If you select this option, underwriters will reimburse you for eligible expenses that are incurred due to an injury resulting from the participation in a sport or activity that is specifically named on the Schedule of Coverage. Benefits up to a maximum of $250,000 or the maximum benefit as stated in the schedule, whichever is lesser.

War & Terrorism Coverage: If you select this option Underwriters will reimburse you for Eligible Expenses which are incurred as a result of Injuries or Illnesses sustained due to war/terrorism or act of war/terrorism. Injuries or Illnesses due to war/terrorism or act of war/terrorism involving the use or release of any nuclear weapon or device or chemical or biological agent, regardless of any contributory cause(s) are not covered with this optional benefit.

FAQ: How does International Major Medical Plan work?

Coverage is available to foreign nationals visiting or working in the US. US citizens who are temporarily unable to purchase domestic coverage due to residency restrictions. Foreign nationals working for a US company needing coverage in their home country or outside their home country.

Coverage becomes effective on the latest of: When the application is approved and premium is received or the date indicated on the application.

Coverage will end on the earliest of: The date requested on the application or till when the premium is paid.

Pre-existing conditions are not covered 

A pre-existing condition means a condition, disease or Injury for which medical advice, diagnosis, care or treatment, including the use of prescription medication including but not limited to ongoing condition(s), was recommended by or received from a licensed health care practitioner, and/or any symptom(s) and/or any condition(s) which would have caused a reasonable prudent person to seek medical attention during the 12 months immediately preceding the Effective Date of the insurance described in this Certificate, whether disclosed or not on Your application.

Though the plan does not restrict you from going to any doctor in the area, to get negotiated rates and 100% coinsurance, you must see a provider in the network.

No, adventure sports are excluded from coverage. However, for an additional premium, the plan offers optional sports or activity coverage. If you select this option, underwriters will reimburse you for eligible expenses that are incurred due to an injury resulting from the participation in a sport or activity that is specifically named on the Schedule of Coverage. Benefits up to a maximum of $250,000 or the maximum benefit as stated in the schedule, whichever is lesser.

The application will need the name, date of birth, visitor’s address, passport country, and email address to send the insurance documents.  If you do have the passport number, you can enter it. A valid credit card will be required to complete the purchase.

Once the application is submitted, an email will be sent to the email address provided on the application which will include links to download the ID card, Visa Letter, and Certificate wording.

The International Major Medical insurance plan is not renewable 

This Certificate cannot be canceled, even if the cancellation request is prior to the Effective Date of the Certificate, since the Certificate may have been used to fulfill international VISA regulations and/or governmental travel insurance requirements.

It is a good practice to keep a copy of the entire Claims documents with you before you submit the Claims for processing

  1. Download and complete the Claims form
  2. Attach copies of all the pages of the passport
  3. Attach the itemized bills
  4. Submit the above within the stipulated time of 90 days after seeing the provider
