Diplomat America Insurance for Travelers

Diplomat America insurance provides accident and sickness medical coverage, travel assistance, and accidental death and dismemberment benefits to non-U.S. citizens and non-U.S. residents traveling to the United States. It is ideal for students, business and leisure travelers, study abroad, international exchange students, tourists, holiday travelers, and church or missionary travelers.

The Diplomat insurance policy offers coverage for medical expenses including hospitalization, surgery, physician visits, and prescription drugs. The plan includes coverage up to a maximum of 15 days for Incidental Trips to Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean Islands.

Diplomat America travel insurance plan pays 80% up to $5,000 of eligible costs, then 100% to the Medical Maximum. There is an additional $250 deductible for each emergency room visit as a result of an illness. The emergency room deductible is waived if hospital admittance is within 12 hours of the incident.

Maximum benefit ranges from $20,000 to $1,000,000 (age 60-69, medical maximum limited to $250,000; age 70-79, medical maximum limited to $100,000; age 80+ medical maximum limited to $20,000) with deductible options ranging from $0 to $5,000. For specific needs like athletic sports and hazardous activity coverage, the optional athletic rider can be added at the time of application.

Range of Coverage

The policy provides insurance for medical accident and illnesses, emergency medical evacuation, repatriation of remains, accidental death, emergency dental treatment and trip interruption. Based on the age, the plan offers coverage options from $20,000 to $1,000,000 and has choices of deductibles from $0 to $5000.

Pre-existing Coverage

The policy provides coverage for acute onset of preexisting conditions up to the chosen policy maximum

Physiotherapy

The policy eligible charges up to $50.00 per visit, with a maximum of 10 visits for  physiotherapy care.

Repatriation

Repatriation of Mortal Remains up to $50,000 upon the death of the insured.

Optional Enhancement Benefits

The policy provides different coverage levels for optional riders for Intercollegiate, Interscholastic Athletics, Club Sports, and Organized Amateur Sport as well as hazardous


Diplomat America offers five maximum coverage options: $50,000, $100,000, $250,000, $500,000 or $1,000,000. Those aged age 60-69 have choices between $50,000, $100,000 and $250,000. Those aged 70 – 79 are eligible for $50,000 and $100,000. Persons aged 80+ are eligible for a maximum benefit of $20,000.

  1. $0, $50, $100, $250, $500, $1,000, $2,500, $5,000 per person/ plan period.
  2. An additional $250 deductible for each emergency room visit as a result of an Illness. The emergency room deductible will be waived if hospital admittance is within 12 hours of the incident.

Five plan options are available with different plan maximums. Plan A – $50,000, Plan B – $100,000,  Plan C – $250,000, Plan D – $500, 000,  Plan E – $1,000,000; Persons age 60-69 are eligible for plan A, B, and C. Persons age 70 – 79 are eligible for plans A and B; Persons age 80+ are eligible for a maximum benefit of $20,000.

The plan can be purchased for a minimum of 15 days and a maximum of 364 days. Coverage under this Plan is not renewable. If additional coverage time is needed, a new application must be completed and correct Premium submitted. A new Deductible, Coinsurance, and Pre-existing Condition Exclusion will apply at each succeeding or subsequent Period of Coverage.

How it works?

Eligibility

The Diplomat America provides Accident and Sickness Medical Coverage, Travel Assistance, and Accidental Death and Dismemberment benefits to Individuals while traveling outside their Home Country to the United States. Applicant must reside outside of the United States. Coverage is available for you, a second adult, unmarried dependent Children, or Children traveling alone. The minimum period of coverage that can be purchased is 15 days, the maximum is 365 days.   

Coverage will begin at 12:00 A.M. Eastern Standard Time on the latest of the following:

  • 1) The date the Company receives a completed application or enrollment form; or
  •  2) The moment Plan Participant exits their Home Country airspace; or
  • 3) The Date the Company approves the Application; or
  • 4) The Date requested by the Plan Participant.

Coverage will end at 11:59 P.M. Eastern Standard Time on the earliest of the following:

  • 1) The date Plan Participant is no longer in an Eligible Class; or
  • 2) The date the Plan Participant’s Trip is completed or;
  • 3) The expiration of 365 days from the Effective Date of Coverage; or
  • 4) The date shown on the Schedule of Insurance issued by the Company.
No, pre-existing condition are not covered under the Diplomat America policy. However for ages under 70 years, an acute onset of a pre-existing condition can be covered up to the chosen policy maximum as per the schedule of benefits in the brochure.

Acute Onset of a Pre-Existing Condition means a sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence of a Pre- Existing Condition which

1) which occurs spontaneously and without advance warning either in the form of Physician recommendations or symptoms, is of short duration, is rapidly progressive, and requires urgent care.

2 must occur after the effective date of the policy and

3 Treatment must be obtained within 24 hours of the sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence.

A Pre-existing Condition that is a chronic or congenital condition or that gradually becomes worse over time will not be considered Acute Onset. This benefit does not include coverage for known, scheduled, required, or expected medical care, drugs or Treatments existent or necessary prior to the Effective Date of coverage.

If the Plan Participant is a non-U.S. citizen, under age 70, traveling in the United States, he or she is covered for an Acute Onset of a Pre-existing Condition(s). This benefit does not apply to Plan Participants age 70 or older

An optional rider can be purchased to cover Intercollegiate, Interscholastic Athletics, Club Sports, and Organized Amateur Sport as well as hazardous sports activities. You can review the brochure for details.

You are free to go to any Doctor/hospital/Urgent Care in the area. Once you meet your deductible and coinsurance the policy will pay up to the chosen maximum for all the eligible expenses.

The application will need the name, date of birth, visitor’s home country address and email address to send the insurance documents.  If you do have the passport number you can enter it. A valid credit card will be required to complete the purchase.

An email will be sent to the email address provided on the application which will include the ID card, Cover letter and Plan Summary.

Coverage under this Plan is not renewable. If additional coverage time is needed, a new application and subscription agreement must be completed and correct plan cost submitted to Global Underwriters Agency. A new Deductible, Coinsurance, other limits, and Pre-existing Condition Exclusion will apply at each succeeding or subsequent Period of Coverage.

A refund of the plan cost, less a $25 processing fee, will be considered only when a written request is received by Global Underwriters prior to the effective date of Individual coverage. After the effective date of individual coverage, the plan cost is considered fully earned and non-refundable. Partial refunds are not available.

If you have paid for the bills upfront at the provider’s office or if you have paid for prescription drugs, you can follow the steps below to submit a claim.

It is a good practice to keep a copy of the entire Claims documents with you before you submit the Claims for processing 

  1. Download and complete the Claims Form  
  2. Attach copies of all the pages of the passport
  3. Attach the itemized bills
  4. Submit the above within the stipulated time of 60 days after seeing the provider
  5. Follow up on your Claim by calling 1.800-513-2981 or emailing claims@globalunderwriters.com
  6. One claim form is needed for each Injury or Sickness for which a claim is being made.
