FAQ: How does Atlas Premium® Plan work?

U.S. Citizens and Non-U.S. Citizens who are at least 14 days of age are eligible for coverage outside of their home countries, except as provided under home country coverage. U.S. Citizens and residents are not eligible for coverage within the U.S, except as provided under home country coverage or an eligible benefit period. Individuals age 65 to 79 as of the certificate effective date are subject to a $100,000 overall maximum limit or less. Individuals age 80 and over as of the certificate effective date are subject to a $20,000 overall maximum limit.

This policy does not cover pre-existing conditions. However, the acute onset of a pre-existing condition is covered for plan participants.

Atlas Premium® Insurance covers charges for a sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence of a pre-existing condition(s) which:

a. Occurs when you are under age 80; and
b. Occurs spontaneously and without advance warning either in the form of physician
recommendations or symptoms; and
c. Is of short duration; and
d. Is rapidly progressive; and
e. Requires urgent care.

Acute Onset of Pre-Existing Condition means a sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence of a pre-existing condition(s) which occurs spontaneously and without advance warning either in the form of physician recommendations or symptoms, is of short duration, is rapidly progressive, and requires urgent care. The Acute Onset of a Pre-existing Condition(s) must occur after the certificate effective date. Treatment must be obtained within 24 hours of the sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence. A pre-existing condition that is a chronic or congenital condition or that gradually becomes worse over time will not be considered Acute Onset. This benefit does not include coverage for known, scheduled, required, or expected medical care, drugs or treatments existent or necessary prior to the certificate effective date.

The Atlas Travel policy does follow a network. You are free to go to any doctor/hospital/Urgent Care in the area, however, if you do go to a provider in the network your coinsurance is waived.

  • Inside the US:
    • If you are a Non-US or Non-EU citizen/resident traveling in the US  you will use – United HealthCare PPO Network.
    • If you are an EU citizen traveling in the US you will use – First Health Network
  • Outside the US: You may visit any provider you choose.

Atlas Premium® Plan includes coverage for taking part in amateur/non-professional sports and activities unless it is excluded. Coverage is for recreational purposes incidental to a trip. You must ensure the activity is adequately supervised and that appropriate safety equipment (such as protective headwear, life jackets, etc.) are worn at all times.

You can review the Certificate for a list of exclusions.

The application will need the name, date of birth, visitor’s address, passport country, and email address to send the insurance documents.  If you do have the passport number, you can enter it. A valid credit card will be required to complete the purchase.

After your initial purchase, you may extend your coverage (5-day minimum) up to a maximum of 364 days from the initial effective date. Provided there is no break in coverage, you will not be required to re-satisfy the deductible, nor will benefit limits be reset.

If a new application is required, then you must re-satisfy your deductible and pre-existing condition provisions.

Extensions or renewals must be made online in the Client Zone with payment by credit card.
