German citizens entering the US must show proof of vaccination. The CDC’s order requiring proof of vaccination for non-US citizens or non-immigrants to travel to the US is still in effect. In addition, all travelers, including children 12 years, who have spent time in a virus-variant area in the last ten days must quarantine for 14 days (about 2 weeks), even if they have been vaccinated. Other travelers do not have to quarantine.  

The US State Department issues visas to foreigners traveling to the country through its embassies or consulates. However, visitors do not need a visa for business or vacation if they are citizens of any of the 39 countries participating in the Visa Waiver Program. Fortunately, Germany is one of the countries under the VWP (Visa Waiver Program). Also, passports need to be validated for six months.

German citizens who have applied for the Visa Waiver Program and meet the VWP requirements do not have to apply for a visa to enter the US, as Germany is one of the 39 countries participating in the Visa Waiver Program. A German can travel to the US for tourism or business for 90 days (about 3 months) or less without obtaining a visa through this program. All travelers coming to the US under the Visa Waiver Program must obtain authorization through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) system before initiating travel to the country. If you do not qualify for the Visa Waiver Program or are traveling to study, work, take part in an exchange program, or any other purpose that does not fall under a B visa purpose of travel, you will need a nonimmigrant visa.
