Patriot America Plus Insurance

Patriot America Plus is a comprehensive visitor insurance plan for non-US residents needing coverage in the US. If you have family or friends visiting the US form their home country, Patriot America Plus is low-cost travel insurance they can consider. Patriot America Plus is Underwritten by Sirius International and is rated “A” Excellent by A M Best. The plan is administered by International Medical Group (IMG). 

Patriot America Plus can be bought for a minimum of 5 days and up to 2 years. If you want to be covered for 2 years, you can purchase the plan for 1 year and renew it once your plan expires.

Patriot America Plus follows the United HealthCare PPO network which has a wide network of providers (hospitals, doctors, urgent care, etc.) all over the US.

Patriot America Plus offers a wide range of coverage and has policy maximum choices from $50,000 to $1,000,000, and deductible choices of $0 through $2,500.  The policy provides coverage for an acute onset of a preexisting condition for people below the age of 70.

As soon as you buy the Patriot America Plus policy, you will be emailed the insurance documents which will contain the link to download the ID card. If you prefer physical documents, you can opt to have them mailed to you in the application. You will receive your documents within 7 days of submitting the application.


Range of Coverage

The policy provides insurance for medical accidents and sickness, emergency medical and political evacuation, repatriation of remains, trip interruption, baggage delay, and accidental death & dismemberment. Based on your age, the plan offers coverage options from $50,000 to $1 million and has choices of deductibles from $0 to $2,500.

Urgent Care

There is a $25 copay and no deductible. In Network plan pays 100% up the policy maximum.  Out of network, plan pays 80% for the first $5,000 then 100% till the policy maximum.

Pre-existing Coverage

For those insured under the age of 70, pre-existing conditions can be covered up to the policy maximum when treatment is obtained within 24 hours of an acute onset of a non-chronic pre-existing condition.

Dental

The plan provides up to $300 maximum limit for dental accidents or unexpected pain to sound, natural teeth and up to the maximum limit for a traumatic dental injury.

Optional Coverage

Coverage for adventure sports is available for those up to the age of 65. Certain sports activities are covered if they are solely for leisure, recreation, or entertainment purposes.

Evacuation Plus rider is available for those under the age of 65 and must be purchased for a minimum of 3 months. It provides coverage for medical evacuation for sudden and unexpected medical conditions that are non-life-threatening, and where hospitalization is medically necessary. It also offers coverage for evacuations as a result of a natural disaster

 

PPO Network

The Patriot America Plus policy is part of the United Health PPO Network, which has a vast network of hospitals, doctors as well as Urgent Cares all over the United States.

Patriot America Plus Insurance provides a choice of medical maximum limits for people upto age 69 years – of $50,000, $100,000, $500,000 or $1,000,000 (ages 70 -79 years choice of $50,000, and ages 80 and older $10,000 policy maximum)

In Network $0

Out of Network $0, $100, $250, $500, $1,000, $2,500 per period of coverage.

100% in Network, 80/20 – $5,000 out of Network

The minimum period of coverage under Patriot America Plus is five (5) days and the maximum is 2 years.

The plan can be purchased for a minimum of 5 days and a maximum of 12 months and can be renewed for another 12 months.  The total Policy Period cannot exceed 24 months.  Coverage may be renewed if it is initially purchased for a minimum of 5 days. If available, additional periods are charged at the premium rate in force at the time of renewal. Once the policy has lapsed, you would need to reapply.

A sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence of a pre-existing condition which occurs spontaneously and without advance warning (either in the form of physician recommendations or symptoms), is of short duration, is rapidly progressive, and requires urgent medical care. The onset of a pre-existing condition must happen after the effective date to be covered, and the patient must be below 70 years old. Treatment must be obtained within 24 hours of the sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence.

 

A pre-existing condition which is a chronic or congenital condition or that gradually becomes worse over time and requires medical care, drugs or treatments existing or necessary prior to the effective date are not considered to be an acute onset.

Only “acute onset of pre-existing conditions” is covered for people under 70 years old up to the specified limit for an acute onset of a pre-existing condition.

The Adventure Sports Rider is available for those up to the age of 65. Activities like abseiling, BMX, bungee jumping, parachuting, wildlife safaris, and windsurfing are covered to the lifetime maximum amounts listed below, as long as they are engaged solely for leisure, recreation, or entertainment purposes. Age 0-49 years: $50,000 certificate period

Age 50-59 years: $30,000 certificate period

Age 60-64 years: $15,000 certificate period

Though the plan does not restrict you from going to any doctor in the area, to get negotiated rates and 100% coinsurance, you must see a provider in the network.

The application will need the following information of the visitor: name, date of birth, residence address and email address to send the insurance documents.  If you have a passport number, you can enter it. A valid credit card will be required to complete the purchase.

Immediately after submitting the application, an email will be sent to the email address provided on the application which will include links to download the ID card, Visa Letter, and Certificate wording.

This policy is renewable as long as your initial plan was at least 5 days. The plan can be bought from 5 days up to 1 year. The plan can be extended before the end date of the policy and can be renewed up to 2 years. 

Before the effective date of the policy:  Full cancellation and refund will only be considered if the written request is received prior to the effective date of the coverage.

After the effective date of the policy:  If the written request is received after the Effective Date of coverage, the following conditions apply if the Insured Person wishes to cancel the insurance and a written partial refund request has been made:

  1. a) If any claims have been filed with the Company, the Premium is fully earned and is non-refundable.
  2. b) If no claims have been filed with the Company, then (i) a cancellation fee of US $50 will be charged; and (ii) only full month premiums will be considered as refundable; and

It is a good practice to keep a copy of the entire Claims documents with you before you submit the Claims for processing

  1. Download and complete the Claims Form
  2. Attach copies of all the pages of the passport
  3. Attach the itemized bills
  4. Submit the above within the stipulated time of 90 days after seeing the provider
