No, pre-existing conditions are not covered under the policy. However, Atlas Travel® provides benefits for acute onset of pre-existing conditions that are not chronic and congenital in nature.

For Ages 70 to 79 years, the plan provides benefits for an acute onset of a pre-existing condition up to the overall maximum limit or $100,000, whichever is lower, and for members under age 70 years it provides up to the overall maximum limit.

An acute onset of a pre-existing condition is a sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence of a pre-existing condition which occurs spontaneously and without advance warning, either in the form of physician recommendations or symptoms. Treatment must be obtained within 24 hours of the sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence. Chronic and congenital conditions, complications, or consequences of a chronic or congenital condition, or conditions that gradually become worse over time are excluded from coverage.

Atlas Travel® can offer medical expense coverage in the home country in the following situations:

Benefit Period – In the event, a Member begins a Benefit Period while the Certificate is in effect, and the Certificate terminates because the Member returns to his/her Home Country, Underwriters will pay Eligible Medical Expenses, as defined herein, which are incurred in the Member’s Home Country during the Benefit Period. Home Country Coverage applies only to Eligible Medical Expenses related to the Injury or Illness that began while the certificate was in effect.
Incidental Home Country Coverage – For U.S. Citizens, for every three month period during which the Member is covered hereunder, Medical Expenses incurred in the US are covered up to a maximum of 15 days for any three months. For Non-U.S. Citizens, for every three month period during which the Member is covered hereunder, Medical Expenses incurred in the member’s home country are covered up to a maximum of 30 days for any three month period. Any benefit accrued under a single 3 month period does not accumulate to another period. Failure of the member to continue his or her international trip or the members return to their home country for the sole purpose of obtaining treatment for an illness or injury that began while traveling shall void any home country coverage provided under the terms of this agreement.

The Atlas Travel® policy does follow a network. You are free to go to any doctor/hospital/Urgent Care in the area, however, if you do go to a provider in the network your coinsurance is waived.

I purchased this plan for my mom when she was visiting last year. The application was straight forward online and we received the confirmation immediately. I purchased this plan because of the acute onset of pre existing conditions coverage. Fortunately, we did not have to use the insurance during this trip. We will be buying this insurance again for her next trip.

I purchased this plan for few months while I was visiting my children in the US. Unfortunately, I cut my finger quite badly in the kitchen; it was a bad cut and I had to get some help immediately.

I sought help at Patient’s First Urgent Care Center and gave the office-lady my Atlas America insurance ID card. After a little bit of a wait a Doctor & Nurse took care of my cut finger. There were no stitches but the wound was secured with a bandage along with a tetanus shot.

In about 3 weeks the insurance company had paid off the Patient’s First Urgent Card charges; and I was sent a bill for the deductible amount of $250 that I paid off. Fortunately, I did not have to use the insurance again.

Atlas provides good benefits. We especially liked the acute on set of preexisting benefit and the 100% coverage after deductible if you go to a doctor in the network. The application process was straight forward. I also received the confirmation right away and was able to download and print the documents including the ID Cards. Customer Service answered all my questions as well. Good plan to purchase.
