  • Insurance for J1

    Good Morning

I am going to visit Duke university NC Duham form 1st March 2020 to 31 August 2020. University is in touch with GEO BLUE and Cross Blue Sheild insurance companies. However, they have allowed visitors to avail any insurance but that must be cover all items/amounts which stated insurance companies are covering then I will be able to apply for waiver otherwise my insurance will be declared null and void.

Please apprise me whether your coverage is same with GEO BLUE and Cross Blue Sheild

    * You must atleast cover all items as they are doing

Do you have a waiver form that you can send us in order to determine the benefit requirements?

I checked the site at https://studentaffairs.duke.edu/stud...riteria-review which states that J1 and F1 students cannot waive insurance.

    Can you please confirm?

        Greetings,

I found the following requirements at https://visaservices.duke.edu/catego...surance/waiver

        1. Medical benefits of at least $100,000 per accident or illness.
        2. Repatriation of remains in the amount of $25,000.
        3. Expenses associated with the medical evacuation of the exchange visitor to his or her home country in the amount of $50,000.
        4. A deductible not to exceed $500 per accident or illness.
        5. Waiting period for pre-existing conditions of 6 months (current industry standard).

May include provisions for co-insurance under the terms of which the exchange visitor may be required to pay up to 25% of the covered benefits per accident or illness.

Policy must be secured to meet the benefits requirements and be underwritten by an insurance corporation with an A.M. Best rating of "A-" or above, an Insurance Solvency International, Ltd. (ISI) rating of "A-I" or above, a Standard and Poor's Claims Paying Ability rating of "A-" or above, or a Weiss Research, Inc. rating of B+ or above.

Alternatively, the sponsor may ascertain that the participant's policy is backed by the full faith and credit of the government of the exchange visitor's home country.

Based on these requirements, you can consider the Student Select Secure – Elite or Select plans. You can review the brochure at https://www.visitorguard.com/docs/student-secure-plan/

You can get a quote as well as apply for the policy at https://www.visitorguard.com/apply/student-secure-plan/
