If you’re thinking of traveling to the Bahamas, there are a few things you need to know first. In this post, we’ll outline the basic travel requirements for getting into the country, as well as some other useful information for visitors. So whether you’re planning a vacation or just want to know more about traveling to the Bahamas, read on!

Testing Requirements 

As per Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Effective 27th December 2021, any traveler presenting PCR reports older than 72 hours or three days will not be allowed to enter the Bahamas. 

For vaccinated travelers: 

  • Fully vaccinated tourists coming to the Bahamas from other parts of the world will be required to show negative COVID-19 test reports. This can be either a Rapid Antigen test or RT-PCR, including RNA, NAAT, PCR, NAA, or TMA, taken not more than three days before arrival to the country. This has come into effect on 27th December 2021. 
  • The mandatory COVID-19-RT-PCR test for vaccinated travelers has been suspended, which was expected to take effect on 7th January 2022. Rapid antigen tests will be accepted for fully vaccinated visitors. 
  • Fully vaccinated tourists traveling inter-island from Paradise Island, Eleuthera, New Providence, Grand Bahama, or Inagua need to take negative COVID-19 tests not less than 72 hours or three days before the date of travel. This has come into effect on 27th December 2021. 

For unvaccinated travelers 

  • Effective 27th December 2021, unvaccinated tourists aged 12 and above need to obtain negative COVID-19 tests, taken not more than 72 hours or three days before their date of arrival. 
  • Effective 27th December 2021, kids aged between 2 and 11 need to obtain negative COVID-19 tests, taken not more than 72 hours or three days before the date of arrival. 
  • The mandatory COVID-19 testing requirement for kids aged between 2 and 11 has been suspended, which was expected to take effect on 7th January 2022. Rapid antigen test is accepted. 
  • Children under the age of 2 do not have to go through any testing requirements. 
  • Effective 27th December 2021, non-vaccinated tourists traveling inter-island from Paradise Island, Eleuthera, New Providence, Grand Bahama, or Inagua need to take negative COVID-19 tests not less than 72 hours or three days before the date of travel. 

Health Visa Application 

All visitors coming to the Bahamas need to apply for a Bahamas Travel Health Visa via travel.gov.bs. 

  • Travel Health Visa is no longer needed for inter-island travel within the Bahamas. This has been put into effect since 1st October 2021. 
  • As of 31st December 2021, Travel Health Visa for the Bahamas citizens and residents was discontinued. Rather they need to present a negative COVID-19 test before their departure to the Bahamas. 

For vaccinated travelers 

  • Fully vaccinated travelers need to upload negative COVID-19 test results along with their vaccination proof, confirming that they have passed 2 weeks immunity period. 
  • Janssen (Johnson & Johnson), AstraZeneca (Covishield/Vaxzevria), Moderna (Spikevax), Pfizer-BioNTech (Comirnaty), Covaxin, Sinopharm, or Sinovac are the vaccines that are accepted by the Bahamas Government. 

For unvaccinated travelers 

  • Effective 27th December 2021, all unvaccinated travelers aged between 12 and older are required to upload their negative COVID-19 test reports, which must be taken 72 hours or three days before their arrival. 
  • Effective 27th December 2021, children aged between 2 and 11 are required to upload their negative test reports that are taken 72 hours before their arrival. 

For the visitors 

Bahamas Travel Requirements
  • All visitors need to opt-in for COVID-19 health insurance coverage as a part of their Bahamas Travel Health Visa application. The plan must cover them during their stay in the Bahamas. The cost of the Bahamas travel insurance is included in the visa application fee. 
  • The Bahamas Travel Health Visa application may take up to 24 hours to get processed and should be completed within the lead time. 
  • The cost of the Bahamas Travel Health Visa depends on the vaccination status and the length of the vacation. 
  • All travelers of 18-years-old and older should complete the Bahamas Travel Health Visa application. 
  • All travelers of 17-years-old and younger should add a profile with their parents’ account and complete the Bahamas Travel Health Visa application.
